Namtok Mae Surin: The Spirit of the Water

Here is another place that you should love in Mae Hong Son. This one is a national park, another choice that you may want to keep in your mind.

All national parks share the same appearance, which is woodland scenery. Yes, that’s right. Only that this one is no ordinary one, but it is a waterfall national park.

Mae Surin Waterfall National Park is located both in Muang County and Khun Yuam County. The area is quite large, about 396.6 millions square metres.

If you hate hot weather, you’re gonna love this place. The weather is mostly cold all year round. Don’t worry about sweating too much.

You’re suggested to go there anytime, except for the rainy season. You know, if it rains all the time, how can you have fun in the middle of open-air space?

You may explore the woodland area, but be careful. There are many types of forests, for examples, mixed forest, deciduous dipterocarp forest, montane forest etc. Animals can be found too, but they’re mostly small, something like birds or bats.

Must-Do Activities

  1. 🚶 Trek the Huai Mae Sakut Nature Trail This activity is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the local ecosystem. The 1.8-kilometer trail, located at the Ranger Station 3, follows the Huai Mae Sakut stream. As you walk, the 17 interpretive stations act as storytellers, explaining the complex relationships between the plants and animals around you. The trail leads to two beautiful, medium-sized waterfalls, Mae Sa Kued and Kued Luang, which are at their most beautiful during the wet and cool seasons.
  2. 🧗‍♂️ Conquer the Summit of Doi Pui For those seeking a challenge, the trek to the summit of Doi Pui Luang is a powerful experience. The route from Ban Huai Hi Village to the summit is about 3 kilometers and takes you through varied and beautiful landscapes. This hike is a physical and mental challenge that rewards you with an incredible sense of achievement and some of the best views in the park.
  3. 🧘‍♀️ Witness the Nam Hu Breathing Cave The Nam Hu Breathing Cave is a small, fascinating geological wonder that reveals nature’s quirky side. It is known for a strange phenomenon where water bursts from the cave’s walls with a sound that resembles a deep breath, occurring approximately every 25 minutes. It is a simple but profound experience that is a quiet highlight of the park.
