Do you believe that natural mud can work perfectly as facial mask? If you don’t believe that, let’s prove it at Phu Klon Country Club.
Geological Insights and Mud Composition
Nestled in the misty mountains of Mae Hong Son lies a natural phenomenon of rare global significance — Phu Klon, also known as the Boiling Mud Spring of Ban Mae Sa Nga. This geothermal mud spring is considered one of only three natural therapeutic mud sources in the world, comparable to the famed Dead Sea mud in Israel and volcanic mud in Romania.
Phu Klon is the result of deep geothermal activity, where mineral-rich thermal water rises through ancient sedimentary rock layers in the Mae Hong Son Basin — a region intersected by the active Mae Hong Son Fault Line. As the hot water reaches the surface, it brings with it black, odorless mud at temperatures between 60–140°C, remarkably free of sulfur — a rare trait for natural hot springs.
Chemical analysis has revealed a rich mix of beneficial minerals, including:
- Calcium – supports skin elasticity
- Bromine – naturally antiseptic yet gentle
- Magnesium – boosts blood circulation and skin renewal
- Potassium & Sodium – balance hydration and improve skin tone
- Bentonite & Montmorillonite Clay – draw out toxins and impurities from the skin
This extraordinary mud was first discovered in 1995 by Thai and French geologists, who were intrigued by thermal water bubbling up through local rice fields. Villagers had long believed the water eased pain and fatigue. After four years of lab testing in France, the mud was scientifically confirmed to have therapeutic qualities — launching Phu Klon into global wellness tourism.
